Work has been completed on a new two storey classroom block at Felsted Senior School, Essex.
The innovative Marshall Centre for Learning includes a state-of-the-art mind-mapping room with writeable/wipeable finish, creating an interactive learning wall enabling collaborative working and participation via mezzanine viewing gallery and exhibition area. We provided ten new classrooms, WC facilities, staff areas, circulation/break-out spaces and a plant room area to programme, budget and quality.
The building features a low carbon, sustainable and cheap to run Monodraught natural ventilation system, utilising the passive effects of wind speed or differences of pressure to create a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. Thorlux Smart lighting throughout exploits the latest “Digital Technology”, providing lighting controls which minimise energy consumption whilst retaining high levels of user comfort - savings by the installation of Thorlux Smart luminaires often exceed 70%. Securing an EPC ‘A’ rating.
The external works included: a car park area, extensive hard landscaping, soft landscaping and removal of an existing single storey prefabricated classroom building. The construction of the new building was built on piled foundations with reinforced concrete ground beams, steel precast frame, block and beam ground floor and concrete stairs, with the walls featuring traditional brickwork and blockwork with aluminium windows/curtain walling.
